Question

Worm.Win32.Netsky Virus on Windows 2000?

I'm trying to fix up a friends computer that has been infected with this virus. I have removed this virus before so I know where it's hiding it's files and everything but I seem to be completely locked out. The computer has a normal boot but once it gets time to access the desktop I'm stuck with desktop background and nothing else. No task bar or shortcuts. If I hit ctrl-alt-delete I don't have access to the task manager. Same thing happens when booted in safe mode, and safe mode with command prompt. Any idea's, I personally think it's done and needs the OS reinstalled, I just need another opinion. It's a Sager laptop running windows 2000 professional.
Thanks!

Answer

You can use a bootable cd to remove the virus. Using ubcd4win should fix the problem.

Other Answer

Whoa. I have just spent 30 minutes checking and once you get to the lock out phase I cannot find anything.
Give it a day, post on the forums, and see what happens but looks to me like you may need to reinstall.
