Question

Why is the iMac LED cinema display SO expensive?

Considering the iMac is £989, why is the cinema display £649? How can they justify asking for so much?

Answer

All Apple equipment has a premium although these displays are amazing. They have a glass screen which would put the price up and its probably a better panel (rather than TN which is the technology used on all the cheap monitors). remember though, it isn't actually LED, it's just backlit with LED.
OLED screens haven't got past about 11" yet and they are very expensive, hence the lack of OLED at the minute. I believe there's a Samsung phone that has taken advantage of OLED though.
Hope this helps,
Dan

Look at the name on the item: Apple.
That's all you need to know.

It's high resolution, uses high quality materials, looks nice, and is made by apple.

LED is fairly new to consumer goods so like all new electronics its expensive. I think that the new iMacs are OLED. And also it's like one of the previous answers its Apple. Because they have always had a finite amount of customers, before the iPhone and iPod, they had to charge a lot for their products so had just keep the rend of expensive products.
Hope this helps ;)
