Question

Computer experts, I need your help NOW!?

I don't have much time, as my laptop can turn off at any second: and that's the problem! It turns off randomly, and it has nothing to do with low battery or settings. For some strange reason, for the last few days it has been turning off on it's own. When it turns off, the whole left side of the keyboard is abnormally warm, as well as the back of the same side (this is where the fan is located, but that fan is not blocked). I have cleaned the fan, ensured that the back of the laptop is not covered to the heat can escape. My boyfriend, who is going to school for computers, thinks that either the fan need to be taken out and given a really good cleaning or there is a broken component. The laptop is a 17" Acer Aspire, almost 3 years old, never had this sort of problem before.
Has anyone heard of this happening? Is there anything that can be fixed? I don't have the money for a new laptop!

Answer

I'll fix it later. Promise.

Go to Malwarebytes.org and download their free version. scan and remove threat. You have malware attacking your lap top through your registry. How it got there doesn't matter it could come from anywhere.
Scanners I use for my desktop:
> Avast!
>Malwarebytes - Malwarebytes.org ( free version)
>Superspyware
All free downloads - filehippo.com or CNet.com

While it could be a virus, it sounds more like an overheating issue. Get a cpu temperature monitoring software if you don't already have one ( like http://www.hmonitor.net/ ) and watch the temperature.
Heatsinks can get clogged with dust, especially on laptops, blocking cooling from where it's needed most. The fan happily blows away, but the cpu doesn't get cooled. A thorough cleaning of the fan & heatsink is a good starting point.
