Question

Disk drive is not opening and is not being recognized, how do I fix this?

I'm running 64 Bit Vista and when going to open my disk drive I get no response. I manually opened it and placed a CD inside, and still got no response. I then went and looked under my computer for the drive, and it was not recognized, so I went and looked under Devices under Control Panel, and it is not showing up there either. I have not used it in a few weeks but out of nowhere this is the first issue I have had with it.
I have no idea what is going on, please, I need to fix this and have no money to drop on and entire new drive.

Answer

I assume that you meant CD drive and you are trying to run a Cd, but it won't run. It does not show up in Device Manager. nor on your computer.
You could have a wire come disconnected inside the computer case, either a power plug or the other cable. Open up the case and check to see if the cables are tightly connected, at both ends (on the motherboard and on the CD drive).
Before you open the case, shut your computer down, unplug it from the power source, (computers always have a little power to them, even when shut down) and then, after opening it, check the cables.
If it looks okay, then put the cover back on, plug your power back and re start your computer.
You can go into Administrative Tools, then to > Computer Management > Disk Management, and then click on Actions, then Rescan and see if your CD shows up on the left.

Other Answer

Does the little light blink all the time when you put a disk in the drive? That's the sign of a drive gone bad, If not go here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 , be brave, and do what they tell you.
