Question
What is an eSATA USB port and what makes it different from any other USB port?
I have this laptop and it has an eSATA USB port. What is that?
Answer
eSATA USB ports started popping up on laptops, such as Toshiba laptops. They support eSATA and USB devices. Previously, you would see separate ports. eSATA and USB are two different data ports that you can connect an external storage device to. eSATA (300MB/sec) is 5 times faster than USB 2.0 (60MB/sec) ports. Besides speed, eSATA requires an external power source where USB can power devies in addition to transferring data.
